Celebration of the International Jazz Day 2015 in Portugal

The Portuguese National Commission for UNESCO has, as usual, disseminated International Jazz Day 2015 to its partners (Associated School, UNESCO Centres as Clubs, heritage sites and entities related to jazz and music in general.

Following the celebration’s dissemination, 10 events have already been registered at jazzday.com, showing the diversity of promoters that have accepted the challenge of organising events related to the International Jazz Day 2015 in all Portugal. In fact events are being organised by schools, associations, clubs and professionals, from the north to the south of the country and in the islands of Madeira and Azores, as follows:

PAUTA JAZZ

The Pauta Humana Cultural Association and the City Council of Agueda, Portugal, join to celebrate the International Jazz Day, which aims to remember the importance of this genre and its contribution in the promotion of different cultures and peoples throughout the history.

International Jazz Day

Organized by EB 2/3 do Caniço School’s UNESCO project in Madeira Island, this year’s event will consist in a daylong special broadcast by the school’s radio, “Cri@tiva FM,” and a choreographed dance with jazz music performed by the students.

Mário Laginha + Big Band Estarrejazz

To celebrate International Jazz Day, the Cine-Theatre of Estarreja (concert hall), Portugal, promotes a commented concert with the exceptional pianist Mário Laginha and the Big Band Estarrejazz. This event will occur on May 1st, but it’s still included in the International Jazz Day celebrations.

Estoril Jazz/2015

Organizers will present performances by Roseanna Vitro/Kenny Werner Duo, Sean Jones Quartet, Opus 5 and the young Portuguese talent Ricardo Toscano Quartet!

Algarve Jazz Orchestra

The Algarve Jazz Orchestra will celebrate Jazz Day with a concert.

Hugo Alves

The Hugo Alves Quartet will celebrate Jazz Day with a concert in Lagoa, Algarve.

«Jazz a Dois» Radio Show (RDP Antena 2) – Special episode for International Jazz Day

«Jazz a Dois», a radio program broadcast by RDP Antena 2 (Portuguese National Radio), will feature a special issue on the beginnings of Jazz in Portugal in the 1920s. Authored by Moreira dos Santos, the show will present unheard records by Portuguese musicians, some of which were satirical to jazz.

Wave Jazz Ensemble’s International Jazz Day celebration

Wave Jazz Ensemble quintet will celebrate the International Jazz Day, at the city of Praia da Vitória, The Azores, with a concert named “jazz na filamónica” with projection of a slide show at Filarmónica Uniao Praiense, and afterwards in a jam with guests at the Re.Act art gallery.

Re.Act Art Gallery’s “late jazz sessions” on April 30th’s weekend

Re.Act Art Gallery in the city Praia da Vitoria, in the Azores, will celebrate April 30th’s – International Jazz Day weekend, with the “late jazz sessions” with local jazz projects, Wave Jazz Ensemble, Sara Miguel quartet and Sónia Pereira quintet.
