The Flemish Commission for UNESCO (Belgium) and the Flanders Department of Foreign Affairs organized an in-depth meeting with the Embassy of Colombia in Belgium. This event took place from 30 September until 2 October 2014 in a synergetic atmosphere.

After the recent inscription of the Colombian Coffee Cultural Landscape on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, international experts from Belgium, France and The Netherlands were more than interested in learning from the Colombian experiences. With some Flemish sites that are undergoing a feasibility study in order to apply for a UNESCO nomination in the future, a sharing of knowledge and good practices is useful.

After a field visit of the Colombian experts to the landscape site ‘de Hoge Kempen’ (Flanders) on 30 September, an international colloquium was organized on both the Colombian nomination file and sustainable coffee growing. The formal inauguration of the exhibition ‘Colombian Coffee Cultural Landscape’ was attended by several Latin-American Ambassadors and prominent figures from the academic, private and public sector and took place at the end of the second day.

On the last day of the meeting, within the framework of the Flanders UNESCO Scientific Trust Fund (FUST), the Flanders Department of Foreign Affairs presented its contributions the area of water and focused on broadening the scope of some of its projects with Colombia.
