COVID19 - Education Sector measures in Romania

For the period of the country-wide school closures, in the context of the COVID19 pandemic, effective in Romania since March 11, the Government and local authorities have taken measures for the continuity of the educational act. Please find bellow a selection of these measures.

Schools across the country are invited to access the suite of educational applications offered under free license by Google and Microsoft: G Suite for Education and Office 365 A1. Through these softwares, online courses can be organized, materials can be managed as  course support, subjects can be graded in the virtual catalog, at the same time informing parents through automatic reports on the evolution of students in the classroom. In this approach, teachers are supported by the county level Teacher Training  Centres  and the elearning experts of the national training project CRED, co-financed by the European Union, “Relevant Curriculum, education open to all”.

Another initiative of the Romanian authorities is the "Teleşcoala" program (Teleschool), which offers courses to students of the VIIIth and XIIth/XIIIth grades, in order to prepare them for the upcoming national exams. The courses can be watched on TV, on the public television TVR’s channels, and online on Youtube, on the program's Facebook page, and on the websites www.tvr.ro and www.tvrplus.ro

Within the framework of a partnership between the Ministry of Education and a civil society organization, the first line of psychological counseling on COVID19 was launched, free of charge, for teachers, parents and students - "Ambassador for Community". Two telephone lines are available at which interested parties can call. There is also an email address where questions can be sent to specialists.

At the capital level, Bucharest, the Center for Educational and Sports Projects Bucharest - PROEDUS of the Capital City Hall implements within the e-learning platform www.hubproedus.ro the “Școala TV” project  (School TV), which contains video courses for preschoolers and primary school students. The lessons can be followed on the platform www.hubproedus.ro or on the Facebook page of the Proedus center.
