The national L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science award was introduced in Sweden 2016.

The evening of the 6th of March 2017 the award was given, for the second time, to two laureates during an award ceremony in Stockholm. Julia Uddén and Kirsten Leistner was awarded the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Sweden Prize of ap. 17 000 USD (150 000 SEK) each along with a yearlong mentorship program given by the Young academy of Sweden.

Julia Uddén, PhD in cognitive neuroscience and Pro Futura researcher at Stockholm University, was awarded the prize for her research characterized by intellectual boldness that seeks to understand how the human linguistic communication develops.

Kirsten Leistner, PhD in Chemical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, was awarded the prize for her successful research on the fundamental understanding of catalysts temperature dependent activity.

The prize was handed over by the Swedish Minister for Higher Education and Research Ms. Helene Hellmark Knutsson.
