The report entitled “National Value of UNESCO to the United Kingdom” was launched today by the UK National Commission for UNESCO. This report is the first to examine the cultural, environmental and financial benefits to UK life from diverse UNESCO’s projects, and their active contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, the report takes a look at how UNESCO sites from Geoparks to Man and the Biosphere Reserves to World Heritage will be part of the UK's post-COVID recovery. In addition, the report shows that UNESCO status adds an additional US180 million or 160 million euros of financial benefit for local communities each year. With the UK designations as a case study, this report shows how national UNESCO projects can help build a greener, more equal and more peaceful world. According to the UK National Commission, UNESCO sites have the potential to assist the UK and potentially other member states in their own way in meeting the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. "At a time when we all look for solutions to build more resilient societies after Covid-19, UNESCO sites offer a wealth of concrete actions to reinvent our relationship with nature, to develop decent jobs and foster social cohesion.
