Meeting of National Commissions for UNESCO attending the 205th session of the Executive Board
From 9 to 10 October 2018, in the margins of the 205th session of the Executive Board, the traditional morning meeting of the National Commissions for UNESCO took place at UNESCO Headquarters. Over 120 participants, representing 89 National Commissions/Permanent Delegations, attended the meeting.
Mr Oscar León González, President of the Cuban National Commission for UNESCO, was elected as Chair of the meeting.
Mr Nicolas Kassianides, Assistant Director-General for External Relations and Public Information (ADG/ERI) ad interim, opened the session. Mr Xing Qu, Deputy Director-General, made a detailed presentation on the spirit and the process of Strategic Transformation of the Organization, as well as the achievements made so far. These presentations were followed by discussions related to the role of National Commissions in the Strategic Transformation.
As follow-up to the 5th Interregional Meeting of National Commissions in June last in Kenya, representatives from 7 National Commissions (France, Kenya, Republic of Korea, Slovenia, Uruguay, UK and Switzerland) shared their initiatives and recommendations.
During the meeting, priority activities undertaken in three programme sectors were also presented by their Assistant Director-Generals; Ms Stefania Giannini for Education, Mr Ernesto Ottone Ramirez for Culture and Mr Moez Chakchouk for Communication and Information. The presentations were followed by a brief exchange with the participants.
