Webinar for Europe and LAC regions on cooperation with Associations and Clubs for UNESCO
Held on 2 July 2021, to share experiences and look into ways of enhancing cooperation at regional and interregional level
33 National Commissions (with Associations and Clubs in their MSs) and 5 Field Offices were invited to this regional follow-up of the Online Meeting organized by the Secretariat on 6 April 2021.
Ms Assel Utegenova, Deputy Coordinator of the National Commissions Unit, briefly presented main topics of discussion, i.e. legal framework, use of UNESCO logo and exchange of ideas for potential regional and interregional activities.
National Commissions of Russia, Italy and Jamaica shared their countries experiences, good practices and lessons learned.
A guest presentation from the “NGOs’ solidarity in response to the pandemic” project showed the way how civil society across the regions can be mobilized around specific topics and projects.
Many useful ideas and some concrete suggestions were also provided during the open discussion by National Commissions of Portugal, Romania, France and Switzerland. In particular, when it comes to planned regional and interregional Clubs-related activities the following projects were announced:
- reviving the Regional Federation for Clubs in LAC (Jamaica);
- joint organization by EFUCA and AFUCA of a large conference on sustainable development in October 2021 (Romania);
- launching of Ibero-American network for UNESCO values with the involvement of Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking Clubs (Portugal).
In his closing remarks Mr Dov Lynch, Chief of the Relations with Member States Section, thanked National Commissions for providing insight into the scale of activities undertaken to improve the efficiency of the Clubs movement at country level. He highlighted that the Secretariat's objective in relation to Clubs is to strengthen them individually and as a network with two main leitmotifs: dialogue and cooperation across the borders. Strengthening cohesion, solidarity and tolerance between societies and within societies were stressed as an important contribution of the Clubs movement that is recognized and valued by UNESCO.
