With an ever-evolving outlook on the planet’s wellbeing UNESCO’s science educational activities in Environment strive to better understand the Earth as well as spread this understanding.

UNESCO’s actions in Water Education inspire a more responsible attitude towards the planet’s most important resource. Reaching out to the Member States, the International Hydrological Programme aims to lessen the impact of global changes on water resources, hence leading the sustainability campaign via education.

While international aid for disaster-prone areas is crucial, Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation is a pre-disaster approach which, when applied, lessens the actual damage that needs to be corrected.

Other area-specific projects include development of pedagogical materials, such as the Educational Resource Kit for Mountainous Regions and the Teaching Resource Kit for Dryland Countries, while projects such as Sandwatch protect the fragile nature of marine and coastal environments.
