World Press Freedom Day Activities with School of Journalism and Communication at Divine Word University, Papua New Guinea (29 April - 5 June)

Multiple venues: Divine Word University Campus, Madang, Papua New Guinea, plus the global WPFD 2010 celebrations in Brisbane 

UNESCO Apia is organizing three activities with the School of Journalism and Communication at Divine Word University (DWU), to commemorate World Press Freedom Day. These will take place both on the Madang Campus as well as in Brisbane. 

A contingent of 5 students and faculty members including 3 women will be traveling to Brisbane to participate in the 2010 global WPFD celebration. Their participation is expected to build their individual capacities and support the creation/strengthening of their linkages with other media professionals and networks both across the Pacific and internationally. Members of the DWU contingent will participate in cultural/media presentations held during the conference.

University of Queensland Campus and other multiple venues 

These activities are being organized by UNESCO Apia, In A Box Innovations and the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Queensland. 

A license has been obtained from the Australian regulators to allow the establishment of FM 94 World Press Freedom Day Radio in Brisbane. This radio station, based on a portable FM transmitter community radio, will broadcast the proceedings of the WPFD 2010 global celebrations live across Brisbane.

Pacific World Press Freedom Day Celebrations (29 April - 3 May 2010) 

Multiple venues – up to 23 Pacific States 

PINA is a regional network of national Pacific media organizations covering 23 Pacific countries. UNESCO Apia is working with PINA in providing financial support focused on supporting World Press Freedom Day national activities in 6 countries (Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu). The national activities being developed are reflective of the particular countries´ context and priorities, but efforts have been made to devote some time to addressing the global theme.
