WPFD 2010: UNESCO Rabat Office

UNESCO´s Office in Rabat has launched a sub-regional competition of opinion articles on the theme “Freedom of Information and the Right to Know: What future for the Maghreb countries?” Articles in French or Arabic, 800-900 words long, should be submitted by journalists from the Maghreb through the mentioned Office´s online platform, prior to the 31 March 2010 deadline.

The articles submitted will be disseminated through said platform to a wide range of journalists in the Maghreb countries, and the best article will be selected by a sub-regional jury of high-level representatives from newspapers and magazines in Algeria, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia. The announcement of the competition´s winner will take place during the celebration of World Press Freedom Day in Nouakchott (Mauritania) on 3 May 2010.

The prize will consist of a grant of 3,000 USD, to be used for completing an internship or undertaking a study in one of the partner media organizations or schools of journalism (institutions interested in being part of the initiative are invited to contact Ms Misako Ito, UNESCO´s Office in Rabat).
