I am 21 years old, and I'm studying journalism and communication at the Institut de Presse et des Sciences de l'Information (Tunis), I will finish my education this year. I'm interested in French language, articles, programs ... My favorite pastime is traveling abroad, discovering other cultures and also meeting new people from around the world.

Inbar Bar-Yehuda, Israel

I am 26 years old, born and raised in Israel. I am doing my Masters degree in Mass communication at Ben Gurion University of the Negev (BGU). Since I finished serving the IDF I have been working in different fields of marketing and customer services. Today I serve as an assistant to the Spoke Person and vice manager of Digital Media at BGU.  My interest is journalism, both printed and electronic. So far, I have been publishing reports in several electronic magazines and blogs, mostly for students. My academic research is focusing on covering various minorities in Israel during terror events.

Emily is a third year Communication and Media Studies student at the University of Wollongong. She has been published in the following Australian publications: The Sun-Herald, smh.com.au, Australian House & Garden, Lake Times, Kiama Independent, Wollongong and Northern Leader and Love Living Illawarra: Proud Locals. She is currently an intern with the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers.

Kathryn Boyd-Batstone, United States of America

Kathryn Boyd-Batstone is a photojournalism student at the University of Oregon.  She has been published in the San Francisco Chronicle, National Public Radio, Oregon Public Broadcasting, and had an image displayed in the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum for The Past, Present and Future of Nature Photography exhibit.  She is from Long Beach, CA and spent the last four months studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain.

Lukas Coussement, Belgium

I'm a 23 year old Belgian graduate completing an internship here at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. My fields of study are Social Sciences and Communication, and I've always been interested in topics related to journalism and free press. Yes, even as a small kid, pretending to be a famous journalist and interviewing my brothers over and over again. During my studies at the University of Leuven I got the chance to work at Belgian's biggest radio station, Radio 1, and gain a lot of hands-on experience. I'm very excited to join the Youth Newsroom team and assist in developing the World Press Freedom Day event!

Hello Everyone, my name is Nisrine (24), I am a Moroccan grad student at l’Ecole Superieure de Journalisme Paris. I got a Bachelor’s degree in
International Studies in Morocco and then I decided to go back to my first passion, which is journalism. It is my second experience in a newsroom and I found it very exciting the first time. I love writing and I am very excited to meet new people who share the same passion. I am looking forward to meeting you, I am sure we’ll do a great job together.

Lara El-Yafi, Syria

I am a fresh Graduate of the Lebanese American University; I studied Communication Arts, with emphasis in Radio, Television and Film.  I concentrated on television production in both news and entertainment. I am Syrian, hold a French Passport and was born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1991. I speak Arabic, French and English. Since my graduation, I have worked on several media projects as an assistant producer.  Furthermore, I did an internship as news Assistant Producer at the Associated Press Television News in Cairo, Egypt. In Collaboration with UNESCO And BBC Arabic, I produced, directed and was a main contributor in a short documentary where a young Syrian explores her roots through Syrians refugees in Beirut. Moreover, I was an assistant producer trainee in a television talent Show X Factor Arabia in Lebanon. Recently I have worked with Abu Dhabi Television as an assistant producer on two TV Shows: one was a candid camera “Mchabeh Aleik” in Egypt and Lebanon and the other a social informative show about the UAE ”LEL Mostahlek Hokouk” in Abu Dhabi.

A graduating senior at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication, Guru is currently on the student-run iPad magazine publication Oregon News and also part of a three-year climate change video project in Alaska. She spent eight years in India in a boarding school before college. Guru’s skills include videography, production, photography and writing, any multimedia storytelling production. Guru speaks English, a little German, a little Punjabi (Northwest India).

I’m a 24 years Algerian girl.  I’m currently completing a Masters Degree at the École Superieure de Journalisme/Alger and working in high-tech magazines (Image ET Son, Phone Magazine). After I graduated on Engineer Statistics and planning school, obtaining an engineering degree and then a Masters degree in organizational management, I started working in a building and public works company, as Deputy Director in charge of management control and planning. Living in and visiting different countries (USA, France, England, Turkey, Tunisia…) made me want to be in touch with several people from other places, to learn about them and their cultures and civilizations, share knowledge, make contacts and friends. Traveling, reading, music and sports, sharing my hobbies with others, are my main interests. I’m impatient to meet the other members of the newsroom; it will be a great experience and challenge to share.

My hobbies are watching football, tennis and visiting musems and monuments. My main interest is the media, and especially newspapers and magazines; and I hope I will become a famous journalist.

However, I am a Voice over artist, specializing in Narration and Documentaries. I am also a translator, an English teacher, a radio announcer, a composer and a photo designer. I love adventures and meeting new people. My inspiration in life is Don Lafontaine. My dream is to pursue my studies abroad in order to make a change in life, to spread love and peace everywhere.

I'm a 22-year old Parisian girl. I was born and raised in Cameroon. I work as an editor-in-chief of Roots Magazine, a Lifestyle newspaper and online magazine that promotes African and Caribbean culture in France. I love to travel, take pictures and meet new people from different backgrounds. From the experience of participating in this youth newsroom I expect to learn about the latest developments related to freedom of expression around the world, and to build a network of young people.

After earning a Master's degree in International Law, Clotilde Penet joined the École Superieure de Journalisme in Paris to reconnect with her dream of being a journalist. Her aim is both to denounce discriminations and highlight positive social and cultural projects. She previously worked for the Senegalese newspaper "Walfadjiri" and particularly enjoys traveling and writing.

I studied in Jordan - radio engineering- and I also worked there as a technician in several radio stations. After I got involved in radio work, I decided to learn more from experts in order to become radio presenter. In 2007, I came back to Palestine to start my work in a local radio station as production manager and presenter, and have participated in social events focused on youth, women and children. I was employed in Nisaa FM to be a presenter and social media officer, because of my belief in human rights as a main concept, and to become one of the supporters for women rights in Palestinian society. What I can do as a presenter, reporter and of course technician, is to support my colleagues and friends.

Alan Sylvestre, United States of America

Currently, I serve as a multimedia producer for FLUX magazine, where I tell stories relative to the Pacific Northwest through different platforms of storytelling. My pieces include writing, video, photography and interactive elements. Over the summer of 2013, I worked with The Kitsap Sun, a daily newspaper based out of Bremerton, Washington, as the sports intern, where I wrote stories and photography for the print edition, and produced videos for their online edition. Now, I frequently contribute multimedia packages to KVAL.com, the local CBS affiliate of Eugene, Ore. Upon graduation, I will be serving as the Charles Snowden Excellence in Journalism Intern with The Register-Guard, a family-owned newspaper based in Eugene, Ore. After my internship, I plan on pursuing a career with either an established an accredited media outlet, or starting my own media company that focuses on digital media production.

Abeer Najjar, 2014 WPFD Youth Newsroom's Arabic Editor

Abeer is an Assistant Professor of Journalism & Media Studies at the American University of Sharjah. She was the Dean of Jordan Media Institute in Amman, Jordan (2011-2012), where she taught graduate courses in research methods in journalism. Abeer is also a member of an Advisory Group of Experts working on “World Trends in the State of Freedom of Expression and Media Development”. Her research interests include journalism in the Arab countries, popular culture, religious media & women and new media. Al-Najjar published many journal articles and book chapters about Arab media.

Julie Posetti, 2014 WPFD Youth Newsroom's English Editor

Julie is Research Fellow and Research Editor at the World Editors Forum, WAN-IFRA in Paris. A former journalist and presenter with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Posetti also teaches journalism at the University of Wollongong, Australia, where she is completing a PhD on 'The Twitterisation of Journalism'.

Peter Laufer, Documentary production support

Peter an award-winning author, broadcaster, documentarian and journalist. He is the James Wallace Chair in Journalism at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication. He has studied and taught throughout the world -- Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. He sent home reports on the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the wars in Central America for NBC Radio, reported for CBS Radio as the Berlin Wall fell, and chased butterflies in Nicaragua for his book The Dangerous World of Butterflies. An accomplished author of over a dozen well-reviewed books, Laufer writes on borders, migration and identity along with animal rights. He also reported, wrote and produced several documentaries while an NBC News correspondent, ranging in topics from the crises facing Vietnam War veterans to illiteracy and hunger in America, and a study of Americans incarcerated overseas for which he won the George Polk Award.

Dan has taught visual journalism for the last 10 years at the School for Journalism and Communication at The University of Oregon, Eugene. Morrison has been a freelance journalist since 1982 and has worked in 56 countries, including eight war zones. Morrison has been published in numerous magazines and websites.

Rosario Soraide

Born and raised in Argentina, Rosario is an Assistant Project Officer at UNESCO´s HQs in Paris, contributing to the coordination of the Networks of Mediterranean Youth programme since early 2104. She started working for UNESCO in late 2009, helping organize World Press Freedom Day 2010. She previously worked for the World Bank Institute, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Office of the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression within the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in Washington, DC; and for the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University in the UK, where she earned a Masters in Development Studies.

Polina Kovaleva

Polina is a consultant for the Communication and Information Sector of UNESCO. She joined the UNESCO team in 2012 and since then she has been working on such projects as World Radio Day, Empowering Local Radios with ICTs, the Global Forum on Media and Gender as well as the 8th UNESCO Youth Forum. Holding degrees in Marketing and Journalism she now successfully combines these two passions of her life: working on various projects she also makes interviews with famous personalities. She is also completing her PhD dissertation, and her research interests lie in the field of radio drama in Russia during the Soviet period.
