Education for Sustainable Development and 'Disaster Reduction'

UNESCO is the lead agency for the promotion of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014).

Among the key action themes being addressed in the Decade is Disaster Reduction, thus recognizing the essential contribution of education in reducing the risk that natural hazards (such as earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, flooding etc.) become human disasters.
