Sustainable Production and Consumption

'Sustainable production and consumption' is not central in UNESCO’s mandate and programme. The Organization’s contribution is mainly through activities relating to ‘Education for Sustainable Development’ . UNESCO is also one of many institutions worldwide that is currently drawing up an audit of its ‘ecological footprint’, with a view to establishing a benchmark for monitoring progress and trends.

Among UN institutions with work in this thematic area of sustainable production and consumption is the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and its Division of Technology, Industry and Economics.
