Why should we preserve biodiversity? Ethical aspects of biodiversity are still a complex issue. A better understanding of the multifaceted conceptual nature of biodiversity and the varying thought on the value of life of non-human beings is needed to find a middle path for policymaking.
World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST)
The World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology is an advisory body and forum of reflection created to generate ethical reflection on science and technology and its applications. The Commission is mandated to formulate ethical principles that could provide decision-makers with criteria that extend beyond purely economic considerations.
Ethics of Science and Technology Programme
To promote consideration of science and technological progress in a context of ethical reflection rooted in the cultural, legal, philosophical and religious heritage of the various human communities is one of UNESCO’s priorities.
