UNESCO’s main celebration of 2018 World Press Freedom Day will host a youth newsroom that will engage journalism students and young reporters from all corners of the world in covering plenaries, parallel sessions and side events. Additionally, the young professionals will conduct interviews with participants and provide background stories and editorials. Photographers, videographers, social media producers, and other journalists will work together, guided by a team of experienced journalists and editors. The Youth Newsroom team will provide a range of articles, photos, video and audio coverage of the global event and bring in fresh perspectives.
This year, the main commemoration of World Press Freedom Day will take place in Accra, Ghana, on 1-3 May, under the theme “Keeping Power in Check: Media, Justice and The Rule of Law” (https://en.unesco.org/wpfd). The 2018 edition of the World Press Freedom Day youth newsroom, organized by the Ghana Institute of Journalism, will be composed of around 40 young people from different regions.
