Face-to-face meeting of the second course in Steering and Management of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (PGEFTP)
41 managers of vocational training systems in African countries from 9 different countries (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, DRC, Guinea, Senegal, Union of Comoros, Togo and Tunisia) met in Dakar from May 9 to 13 for the face-to-face training session in Steering and Management of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (PGEFTP) organized by the Africa Office of the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP-UNESCO Dakar).
During this face-to-face meeting of the second PGEFTP course cohort, the challenge was:
- on the one hand, to reinforce the knowledge and skills acquired during the four distance learning modules;
- on the other hand, to enrich the professional experiences of each participant through a dynamic of knowledge and experience sharing between actors from the same country, but also between different categories of actors from nine countries, both at the central and deconcentrated levels, involved in the steering and management of the TVET system.
Through plenary presentation sessions, collaborative country group workshops and inter-country sub-group workshops, this face-to-face meeting succeeded in strengthening the capacities of TVET system stakeholders, both at the strategic and operational levels, on the themes necessary for the development of national vocational training systems in their respective countries:
- Public-private partnership and social dialogue in TVET;
- Global and national TVET strategies according to the program approach and results-based management;
- Adequacy of training supply and labor market needs;
- Monitoring of insertion and satisfaction of graduates;
- Financial simulation model and policy trade-offs;
- Regional/territorial and sectoral governance of TVET;
- etc.
During 07 months of online training, since September 27, 2021, this training in Steering and Management of TVET was was divided into 04 training modules:
- Module 1 - TVET Specificities, Issues and Challenges
- Module 2 - Elements of labor market analysis
- Module 3 - TVET Costs and Financing
- Module 4 - Strategic and operational planning and contribution to the implementation of vocational training reforms
After their return to their respective countries, participants are asked to carry out a collaborative end-of-training project in sub-groups that capitalizes on the knowledge acquired and allows them to demonstrate the skills acquired by putting them into practice on a concrete axis of their national vocational training strategy.
