This training really brought home everything we did not know about data for risk management. This will help ensure that we have a fully developed and robust school mapping system in place. All of this can contribute to long-term efficiency and the way in which we can respond and mitigate risks in Guyana’s education system.

The course really reinforced the equity lens. It is present throughout the modules, from the beginning of the course, through to the end. We need to be very clear on who is left behind, whether it is gender issues or social inclusion, and make sure that fairness and inclusion are key to the plan.

The advantage of IIEP is that I have not just been equipped in terms of the technical skills. I have also been given a new lens. I have realized that in order for us to plan, you really need the participation of all the relevant stakeholders and this has been illustrated throughout the training. Planning is not just a document. Plans are about people. Many plans fail because of lack of thorough understanding of the context.

The programme raises different aspects that are important to consider when planning and managing education policies, in order to make them more successful. The training is enriched by the exchange with colleagues from other countries by sharing different realities and their ways of dealing with them. At all times, work is carried out in a very pleasant and collaborative environment.

It was a pleasure to participate in the IIEP UNESCO training for several reasons: firstly, because it allowed me to learn about educational public policies in the region. In addition, I met people from various countries, the exchange between cultures was enriching and we shared very interesting exchanges. The immersion in a host country (in my case, Uruguay) and the fact that I was able to learn first-hand about its educational policies was an enriching experience that we took back home with us.

My training experience at IIEP UNESCO was very enriching, because I had the opportunity to look at public policy critically and from the perspective of the policy-maker, something that transcended my professional experience. I have been able to apply the new knowledge in my professional life, even changing my way of thinking about education policy planning and management. It was great to learn how education systems work in other countries in the region and to hear the testimonies of so many colleagues.
