The overall goal is to refine the draft law on the status of the artist, facilitate its endorsement and concrete implementation. This will be done through a series of consultations with artists and cultural professionals that will inform the elaboration of decree-laws as well as via capacity building of national and local institutions in charge of the monitoring and implementation of the new law. During the past five years, the Tunisian Ministry of Cultural Affairs has been committed to design a new legal framework for artistic and cultural professions in order to guarantee artistic freedom, valorise artistic work, strengthen the role of the artist in society and preserve cultural rights as set out in the Tunisian Constitution. This initiative benefits from a large consensus amongst Tunisian central administration, artists unions and civil society organizations, aiming to advance fundamental social and economic rights and to promote the crucial role of arts in society in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
