UNESCO Cairo in a nutshell
UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office in Cairo
UNESCO Cairo Office, established in 1947, is the Regional Bureau for Sciences in the Arab States. It is also the Cluster Office for Egypt, and Sudan. The UNESCO Cairo Office is one of 52 field offices worldwide.
Its mission, like all other UNESCO field offices and units, is to contribute to peace and security in the world.
This is done by promoting intellectual cooperation among nations through education, science, culture, social and human sciences and communication. In view of its current mandate, the UNESCO Office in Cairo serves as a regional UNESCO office for Science & Technology in Arab states.
Mission
The Regional Bureau supports Arab member states, individually and collectively, to establish policies, action plans, partnerships, and alliances that facilitate: enhanced access to knowledge diffusion mechanisms; the bridging of technological gaps; the adoption of proven technologies; and the acceleration of building human and institutional capacities in relevant fields.
The Bureau focuses its support on areas of science and technology that are identified as most essential for the realization of the sustainable development agenda in the Arab region.
Mainstreaming knowledge and the advancement of science, together with enhancing the utility of ICT in knowledge transfer are integral components of this strategy.

Commitments and Actions
"We are living in a unique period in human history. The dawn of a technological revolution, combined with climate challenges, heralds a major anthropological transition. These changes raise questions about humanity itself. Faced with technological developments, environmental changes, and at the risk of these transformations deepening inequalities between and within societies, we must now, more than ever, cultivate, preserve and transmit what makes us human.
This ambition summarizes UNESCO’s core work since its inception. Today we carry out this kind of work in all areas of our mandate so that education, culture, science, and information can serve to build a more just and sustainable future.
The purpose of this publication is to present some of UNESCO’s specific achievements over the past year. This short and illustrated report tells the stories of the men and women who transform the ideals of the Organization into reality."
