“The right to education in context: recovering and transforming”

May 26-27, 2022

As the mid-term targets for the achievement of  SDG4 and its components approach, reports and studies on education illustrate the significant challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean to achieve the 2030 goals. COVID-19 has exacerbated educational inequalities and limited the right to education of the most vulnerable, making it more pertinent than ever to intensify collective efforts to achieve SDG 4.   The region now has an important opportunity to renew commitments to cooperation in education, to integrate new educational contexts shaped by the pandemic, revitalize political and technical dialogue and strengthening the possibilities for regional educational cooperation.

It is in this context that the III Regional Meeting of Ministers of Education of Latin America and the Caribbean will take place. The agenda reflects the proposals put forward in the Futures of Education Report and the upcoming Transforming Education Summit, and includes the presentation of the Regional Monitoring Report of SDG4/E2030. Issues around educational recovery and transformation will be addressed, and the Ministers of Education will review the proposal for a Regional Road Map for the implementation of SDG4 for the 2022-2025 period.

Objectives and expected results:

Learn about the progress made in achieving SDG 4 of the 2030 Agenda in Latin America and the
Caribbean
and review the achievement of the proposed targets and the challenges to achieve them, considering the profound impact of the pandemic on education systems.

  • Expected result: SDG4/E2030 Regional Monitoring Report, presented.
