Since December 2016 and after several years of conflict that extensively destroyed and damaged the World Heritage site of the Ancient city of Aleppo, combats stopped in Aleppo, allowing for operations on the ground to be initiated. The side event aims at presenting the state of the work initiated since early 2017 for the reconstruction and recovery of the Ancient City of Aleppo (Syria), through a round table of experts. The joint UNESCO-UNITAR publication Five years of conflict, the State of cultural heritage in the Ancient City of Aleppo will be presented, as well as the Syrian strategy for the recovery of the city. UNESCO and ICOMOS experts will also present the ongoing works in the field of recovery and reconstruction.
