UNESCO supports the Brazilian initiative of EmeRI preprint repository

UNESCO in Brazil is cooperating with the initiative of the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT) together with the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors (ABEC) on the development of the Emerging Researcher Information (EmeRI) preprint repository.

Preprints are articles not yet published but made available by scientific journals for peer review.

EmeRI has a great innovative aspect as it is one of the first repositories of scientific preprints, which is essential for a quick response against COVID-19. This repository of preprints was created to speed up the publication of research results. Its proposal arose from spontaneous requests by some Brazilian scientific editors who saw the need to speed up the availability of articles submitted to their journals, especially to face the coronavirus pandemic.

The difference between EmeRI and other existing preprint repositories is noteworthy. The articles are included in it by the editors of the journals, who make a prior assessment of their scientific nature.
