In response to COVID-19 school closures, governments around the world have transitioned education from offline to online environments. Suddenly, the learning of hundreds of millions of young people is being mediated by complex digital systems that capture enormous amounts of data and are controlled by multiple parties, typically a mixture of public and private entities. What is the future of learner privacy in this changed context?

Expert panelists will consider what steps educational authorities and other stakeholders can take to protect the privacy and security of learner data, while also realizing the educational opportunities afforded by digitalization. The webinar will ask if we are entering a new age of learning surveillance and who should own and control the expanded and deeply personal ‘fingerprints’ learners and teacher leave in online spaces.
