Online Workshop on World Heritage Impact Assessments for the Arab States

An online technical workshop was organized to strengthen capacities in the Arab States in applying Impact Assessments to both natural and cultural World Heritage properties, providing important tools to evaluate the risks and threats that new projects may pose to the Outstanding Universal Value of sites, and to elaborate mitigation measures.

The online workshop, which took place on 6 and 9 December 2021, brought together more than 20 participants concerned with the management and conservation of World Heritage properties. It was organized in collaboration with the Advisory Bodies of the World Heritage Committee, ICCROM, ICOMOS and IUCN. The participants were guided through an introduction to the methodology for preparing Impact Assessment studies, including the principles and processes, which were illustrated by specific case-studies.
