UNEVOC Network Coaction Initiative 2022: Pilot Edition

In February 2022, UNESCO-UNEVOC launched the inaugural UNEVOC Network Coaction Initiative – a collection of projects that have been designed by and for UNEVOC Centres.

Each project of the Initiative consists of one Lead Centre and several other partner Centres, all of whom act as contributors and beneficiaries to their project’s outcomes. The Lead Centre coordinates the project with the support of UNESCO-UNEVOC. As part of the first edition of the Coaction Initiative, four projects were selected with the involvement of 23 UNEVOC Centres from all 5 regions of the UNEVOC Network.

The Coaction Initiative originated from a desire to support UNEVOC Centres to develop projects that focus on their common interests and needs. The UNEVOC Network contains a wealth of information, knowledge and expertise. The opportunity to capitalize on these resources is what makes the Coaction Initiative special. Harnessing this potential represents a compelling opportunity to strengthen linkages and create new bonds among UNEVOC Centres as represented by the projects below.

The “Adoption of Digital Competency Framework for TVET and its Integration into TVET Staff Capacity Building Programme” is led by the Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education, University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia with 5 partner Centres: Maldives Polytechnic, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Technical and Vocational Training Organization of Iran, Zhejiang Technical Institute of Economics (China) and Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (Thailand). The project aims to develop and improve digital competencies among TVET teachers, managers and administrators by adopting available digital competency frameworks for TVET and training structures for digital competency implementation.

The “Future Foresight Institutional Capacity for Post COVID-19 World” project is led by Higher Colleges of Technology of the United Arab Emirates along with 6 other partner Centres: Waikato Institute of Technology (New Zealand), CFL - Halsingland Education Association (Sweden), Arusha Technical College (Tanzania), The National Higher Engineering School of Tunis (Tunisia), National Skills University Islamabad (Pakistan) and Iloilo Science and Technology University (Philippines). This project aims to train TVET staff in the planning-oriented practice known as Strategic Foresight and enhance institutional planning capacity by giving institutions the ability to transform ongoing practices to respond to emerging global trends.

The “Capacity Building for Addressing SDGs through Curriculum and Pedagogy Innovation in TVET” project is led by The Education University of Hong Kong (China), along with 5 other partner Centres: Shenzhen Polytechnic (China), VETP Vocational Education and Training Partnership NGO (Mongolia), Yaba College of Technology (Nigeria), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Philippines), and the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (Saudi Arabia). The project will organize capacity building for the partnering UNEVOC Centres that focuses on the SDGs and a green transition through curriculum and pedagogy.

Finally, the “Results-Based Management – Strengthening the Responsiveness of TVET institutions in the Post COVID-19 Era” project is being led by HEART/NSTA Trust (Jamaica) along with 4 other partner Centres: Grenada National Training Agency, Technical and Vocational Education and Training Council (Barbados), University of Technology (Jamaica) and the National Training Agency (Trinidad and Tobago). This project aims to facilitate the training and implementation of a Results-Based Management (RBM) system in participating institutions and to establish an online shared system of resources and lessons learnt at the various levels of execution of the results-based management system.

UNESCO-UNEVOC looks forward to supporting each project’s development, documenting its outcomes and sharing the key takeaways with other UNEVOC Centres.
