In celebration of International Day of Peace, UNESCO Bangkok releases 6 new infographics for its Together for Peace (T4P) initiative, promoting ‘positive peace’ in the Asia-Pacific

Launched in celebration of International Day of Peace on 21 September, and in support of the Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau of Education’s ‘Together for Peace’ (T4P) initiative, 6 new data-driven infographics represent themes of DIALOGUE, EQUALITY, KNOWLEDGE, PEOPLE, PLANET and UNESCO.

The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly as an annual 24-hour period of non-violence and ceasefire – a ‘sustained humanitarian pause’ – in all conflicts worldwide. In keeping with UNESCO’s 2030 Agenda, this year’s Peace Day additionally affirms cooperative sustainable development among all peoples, as ‘there can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable development’. Additionally, in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 Peace Day takes up the theme ‘Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world’.

New infographics vividly convey the continuity between the T4P educational initiative with UNESCO’s overarching mission of fostering global peace and sustainability among all peoples:

UNESCO: Throughout all its sectors – Education; Natural Sciences; Social and Human Sciences; Culture; and Communication and Information – UNESCO promotes peace at the heart of its programmes.
PEOPLE: People are at the center of UNESCO’s humanist vision. UNESCO’s work focuses on innovations that are created by people, for people. Programmes are devoted to protecting people’s fundamental human rights so they can collaboratively build more just and peaceful societies.
PLANET: UNESCO strives to protect the planet from degradation by raising awareness globally and supporting the sustainable management of resources, the protection of natural sites, and the strategic reversal of damage that has already been done.
EQUALITY: It has been demonstrated that equality in rights, status and opportunities regardless of gender, ethnicity or socio-economic background can contribute to the lessening of armed conflict. UNESCO Bangkok promotes ‘positive peace’ in the Asia-Pacific, where peace signifies not only the absence of conflict, but the fostering of economic and environmental sustainability among diverse communities.
DIALOGUE: UNESCO promotes trans-cultural dialogue among policy-makers, educators, youth, and the media development for promoting peaceful societies that derive strength from cultural diversity and difference.
KNOWLEDGE: UNESCO promotes knowledge development, knowledge exchange, and cross-border collaboration as core vehicles for empowering and sustaining peace among the diverse cultures in the Asia-Pacific.
