Happy Schools Project national capacity development workshops and pilots: Japan, Thailand and Lao PDR

The Happy Schools Project, launched by UNESCO Bangkok in June 2014, aims to promote happiness, well-being and holistic development in schools. The Happy Schools Framework, centred around the core concepts of 1) People, 2) Process, and 3) Place, includes building positive relationships between teachers and students, promoting fun and engaging learning approaches, and creating a school environment free from bullying. The Happy Schools Project offers a different vision of the quality of education – one in which learners’ unique talents, strengths and abilities are appreciated, recognized and celebrated.

Pilot and Workshop Objectives

The Happy Schools national capacity development workshops and pilots aim to operationalize the Happy Schools Framework for use at local and national levels with pilot activities in three target countries: Japan, Lao PDR and Thailand. These workshops and pilots are working with selected teachers and schools leaders in UNESCO Associate Schools Project (ASPnet) schools in each country. The trainings place an emphasis on bringing the Happy Schools Framework, learner well-being and social and emotional skills for learning into the classroom and school.

  • Fukuyama, Japan – 20-21 April 2019
  • Bangkok, Thailand – 22-24 May 2019
