Gaziantep organized the 4th edition of the “Gastroantep International Gastronomy Festival”
From 15 to 17 September 2022 Gaziantep, a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, hosted the 4th edition of the “Gastroantep International Gastronomy Festival”, an event organized by the Municipality as part of its action plan towards implementing the UCCN mission.
After two years of interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the “Gastroantep International Gastronomy Festival” brought together several actors and stakeholders from the cultural and creative sector, especially in the gastronomy industry, such as culinary federations and chefs as well as researchers, journalists, ambassadors, and UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy including Bergen, Östersund, Hatay, Afyonkarahisar, San Antonio and Tucson.
This year, the Festival was focused on the theme of “Sustainability” through several panels, such as “Creativity and innovation, new issues of the urban policies” and “Branding for gastronomy cities”. Open discussions with the public were also organized, revolving around the importance of women’s employment in the gastronomy sector, sustainable gastronomy and agriculture, and sustainable tourism. As part of the Festival, specific workshops were also offered to educate children around the theme of food sustainability.
The fourth edition of the “Gastroantep International Gastronomy Festival” provided the participating Creative Cities with the opportunity to share their best practices in sustainable urban agriculture, as well as discuss the importance of food policies and culinary education. Furthermore, this Festival confirmed the value of international events as a means of developing a sense of community, innovation, and cooperation.
