October Literature Month in Wonju

October Literature Month in Wonju

When:
Sat, 10/01/2022 to Mon, 10/31/2022

For the second year in a row, Wonju, a Creative City of Literature, is devoting the entire month of October to celebrating literature and its fundamental role in shaping society through the “Wonju Literature Month Festival”.

Around the theme "Literature, Transforming Lives in a Time of Crisis", the Festival offers a variety of events such as forums, academic lectures, book fairs, stage performances, exhibitions, experiential and participatory programmes, in cultural facilities across the city.

Following the opening ceremony on 6 October, an international forum was organized, attended by the General Director of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO and representatives from other Creative Cities of Literature, namely Bucheon, Edinburgh, Iowa City and Nottingham.

The Festival is expected to attract and engage around 3.000 citizens, as well as Creative Cities’ representatives from other creative fields, such as Icheon, Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art, and Seoul, Creative City of Design.

By committing an entire month to the celebration of literature, Wonju demonstrates its efforts to strengthen the creation and dissemination of cultural activities, improve participation in cultural life for its citizens, and foster cooperation between Creative Cities from different world regions.
