- Background:
Hanoi’s factories, once nodes of modernization that catapulted the city’s rapid urban transformation, have quickly been displaced due to urban growth since the early 21st century. Seemingly forgotten remnants in the heart of a dynamic city, as many as 117 facilities have been or are slated for redevelopment according to city plans. However, industrial heritage continues to influence the physical fabric of Hanoi, as well as its social fabric through the everyday lives of people living in and around spaces of production. How can our understanding of modern history and the city's industrial vestiges speak to our dreams today? What aspects of the dream of the past can we evolve towards a more humane, equitable, and sustainable 21st century?
Under the framework of Ha Noi Festival of Creative Design and Ha Noi Rethink Project, UNESCO Office in Ha Noi organizes the 72hr Idea Competition- Rethinking the modern dream of Recent Past. The competition aims to encourage, inspire and provoke different ideas about old factories in Ha Noi. Participants will be asked to select an industrial site and propose evocative plans for renovating or reusing the space, in which architectural, cultural, and socio-political value will be carefully considered in urban context.
- Assignments:
The contractor will work closely with the Culture Project Officer, under the supervision of the UNESCO Culture Program Coordinator, and shall be responsible for organizing the Contest with specific tasks as of followings:
2.1. Communication:
- Compose 6 posts for Facebook and Website which include text and design to promote the results and impacts of the contest
2.2. Organization of Contest:
- Coordinate selection process and administrative support for the shortlisted (organize submission, labelling, send to jury and synthesize information for short list)- 93 submissions
- Organize an online defense workshop for final round (logistics and administrative)
- Invite jury board as per consultation with UNESCO
- Translate submitted work (140 pages)
- Design and print 20 certificates
2.3. Financial disbursement for awardees:
- 1 Winner: 30,000,000 VND
- 1 Runner up: 10,000,000 VND
- 3 Most Voted Prizes: 3,000,000 VND

The proposed budget will be negotiated and decided according to UNESCO’s regulations.
