On 19 May 2022, Cannes, a Creative City of Film designated in 2021, organized a series of meetings for professionals focusing on the city’s audiovisual sector, as part of its Cannes on Air project. The event gathered 22 political and cultural representatives from 8 Creative Cities – namely Bradford, Bristol, Lodz, Rome, Sarajevo, Valladolid, Ouagadougou and Dakar – as well as national delegations from Nigeria and Thailand.

This event enabled the city to meet with other Creative Cities with a view to exchanging, sharing and creating synergies through future joint projects in the sector of audiovisual creation, as well as strengthening intercity cooperation around the objectives of the Network. The municipality also presented its Cannes on Air project, which is part of a broader strategy to develop its audiovisual industry, by proposing new infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment dedicated to the creative arts. This project, which brings together the public and private sectors and civil society, encourages partnerships between professionals in the audiovisual sector, students and entrepreneurs through exchange and creation spaces such as the Georges Méliès Campus. In this respect, the city intends to facilitate access to audiovisual creative arts, particularly in script writing, to nurture inclusiveness for communities from marginalized urban areas.

The event also enabled the cities involved to exchange on their strategic orientations and the good practices engaged by each one to establish culture a lever for sustainable urban development.
