The key objective of the project ‘Building the future schools through ICT competency development’, implemented jointly by the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) and Weidong Cloud Education Group (China), is to investigate the new ICT-based educational environment support and facilitate new competencies of the 21st century schools, with particular focus on TVET institutions. The project activities cover a wide range of issues within the transformation of TVET and enhancement of school capacities to create sustainable ICT-based educational ecosystems and develop relevant skills of individuals to meet the demands of the modern labour markets and evolving social systems.
Within the project’s further advancement and in pursuance of the UNESCO Greening Education Partnership initiative (Action Area 3 ‘GREENING CAPACITY’), UNESCO IITE aims to support education professionals, including TVET specialists, through the integration of climate education in teacher training curricula, thus building the capacity of key education stakeholders in the areas of green transition and meaningful climate action.
UNESCO IITE contemplates to design, develop and launch an online training crash course for educators dedicated to the essence and benefits of building green and sustainable skills in and through TVET. The course will introduce TVET specialists to the growing need for workforce with green skills, to the job sectors with high potential to adopt and improve greener practices.
Generally, the course materials will focus on the issues of climate resilience, green transition and Circular Economy towards responsible development and sustainable improvement.
Hence, UNESCO IITE will contract an individual consultant to enable the design, development and deployment of the ‘Greening TVET’ online training crash course for educators (incl. teachers, trainers, school managers, curriculum designers and materials developers, etc.) in the project target regions and beyond.
- WORK STAGES AND SUBMISSION DATES
- Design a project-related online training crash course (duration: 36 academic hours). The syllabus shall provide descriptive information on the academic workload, learning modules (particularly, session themes), training methods (notably, online learning), specification of formative and summative assessments.
-
- The Expert shall focus on defining the learning objectives, the sequence and planning the time for different sessions of the training. The training course presupposes SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound) learning objectives to refer to the measurable performance that is desired by the end of the training.
- The Expert shall elaborate the course with due allowance for the information collected during the desktop analysis of the research findings conducted at the earlier stages of the project realization to create the training that meets the needs of the focus regions and the characteristics of the target audience. The course curriculum (with Session plans) to be submitted to UNESCO IITE by 29 May 2023.
- Following on from the design of the online crash course, approved by UNESCO IITE, develop a teacher training programme (including text materials, visuals (PPTs, photo/video content…), formative and summative assessments) on the designated theme. The course design and development will build on the relevant UNESCO guidelines and comprehensive thematic resources, including:
-
- Education for sustainable development: a roadmap
- Skills development and climate change action plans: enhancing TVET’s contribution
- Greening Technical and Vocational Education and Training: A Practical Guide for Institutions
- Global citizenship education: advocacy, practice and awareness handbook for teachers
- Youth demands for quality climate change education
- Transforming Education for Climate Action: Report to Commonwealth Ministers of Education
- Country progress on climate change education, training and public awareness: an analysis of country submissions under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
- Integrating action for climate empowerment into nationally determined contributions: a short guide for countries
- Climate change education
All course materials to be submitted to UNESCO IITE by 27 June 2023.
- Upon the approval of the course frame and content by UNESCO IITE, guide and assist the E-Library tech team towards the deployment of course materials on the online leaning platform.
- Lead dedicated training activities for TVET educators (teachers, trainers, school managers, curriculum designers and materials developers, etc.). Alongside online training, the course must encompass two live sessions: one introductory webinar with a presentation of curricular programme and one closing meeting devoted to the training subject, course-related issues, analysis of accomplishments and challenges experienced by trainees throughout the course. Submit presentation files before webinars and brief reports after each session to UNESCO IITE. All webinars shall be conducted before 16 October 2023.
- Plan and perform final evaluation (summative assessment) for the course trainees. Summative assessment must be organized on the E-Library platform and contain questions and assignments pertaining to the training theme and course content.
- Maintain effective communication with trainees (within Expert’s AoR): respond to participants’ course-related addresses and requests.
- Prepare an executive completion report on the full scope of conducted activities (2-3 pages,
in English), including specification of the delivered commitments, related remarks and expert observations, highlights and lessons learned, comprehensive recommendations for the crash course to gain further ground. Submit the report to UNESCO IITE by 27 October 2023.
