2009 International Youth Camp on Astronomy and World Heritage

17-26 July 2009

This Summer Camp is open to young students of all nationalities between 16 and 20 years old, who are interested in Astronomy and World Heritage. The objective of the camp is to teach young people about Astronomy and World Heritage and give them a methodological framework for associated actions, to offer them the precious opportunity to observe a total solar eclipse for more than 5 minutes, and to give them the opportunity to discover different cultures in a friendly atmosphere.

Participants will study World Heritage and astronomy-related knowledge; learn from the World Heritage in Young Hands Education Kit, which is compiled by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre; observe the five-minute total solar eclipse; visit the Classical Gardens of Suzhou World Heritage site; and discuss hot topics such as World Heritage and Peace, World Heritage and the Environment, and World Heritage and Tourism.

Mr. FANG Cheng, vice chairman of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) is engaged as a technical advisor.
