Second UNESCO Creative Cities’ Forum
When:
Fri, 09/04/2015 to Sun, 09/06/2015
After the success of last year's first edition, Fabriano (Italy) organized the second UNESCO Creative Cities’ Forum. From 4 to 6 September 2015, representatives from several member cities of the Network gathered in the Italian city to exchange ideas on the theme “Industrial City, Creative City”.
Along with other two Italian cities, Bologna in “Music” and Turin in “Design”, representatives from Dakar (Senegal) and Enghien-Les-Bains (France) in “Media Arts”, Zalhè (Lebanon) in “Gastronomy”, Saint-Etienne (France) in “Design”, as well as Icheon (South Korea), Jacmel (Haiti), Jingdezhen (China) and Paducah (USA) in “Crafts and Folk Art” participated in the Forum.
On this occasion, institutional meetings, seminars, conferences, and meetings with representatives from local cultural and economic spheres were held. A number of cultural events with renowned artists were also organized to explore the concept of creativity. Moreover, for the first time, the city’s Art Gallery (Pinacoteca Civica) hosted an exhibition of native craft art-pieces from guest cities, such as Korean ceramics, Haitian masques and American quilts. These diverse cultural expressions dialogued perfectly with the medieval masterpieces preserved in the Art Gallery.
As the Industrial hub of the Marche region and designated UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art in 2013, Fabriano has been collaborating closely with the UCCN over the last few years. The Poiesis Art Festival, an initiative for the Marche region, may be relaunched in 2016 to enhance the city’s efforts in the field of creativity.
