Saint-Étienne and Kobe, or the “Hybridisation of cultures”
From 18 to 20 of July, Saint-Étienne will invite the designer Kanako Yamauchi from Kobe to carry-out a design workshop called the “Hybridisation of cultures” for children from 8 to 11 years old at the Espace Boris Vian of Saint-Étienne in cooperation with Kaksi Design.
As part of the Network, the Cité du design of Saint-Étienne and the Centre of design and creativity of Kobe (KIITO) have launched a cooperation programme in 2015 and 2016. In February 2015, Kobe invited the studio Kaksi Design – Élodie Vichos and Guillaume Granjon from Saint-Étienne for a workshop on the theme of the hybridisation of cultures with young visitors of KIITO.
In turn, Saint-Étienne invites Kanako Yamauchi whose workshop will last three days and showcase three specificities of Japanese culture: the construction of a tatami mat, calligraphy and the ceremony of tea. This three-day workshop aimed to share some Japanese culture assets to a young audience.
Through this initiative, the Cité du design fosters the mobility of designers within the Network at the international level, offering them the opportunity to exchange know-how, and live an immersive experience of the hybridisation of cultures.
