Marking its 30 years of achievements in 2023, the ICC-Angkor/Sambor Prei Kuk is a unique model of multilateral cooperation between Cambodia, UNESCO, and the co-chairs of Japan and France for the safeguarding and sustainable development of the Angkor and Sambor Prei Kuk World Heritage sites. Since its establishment in 1993, the ICC-Angkor/Sambor Prei Kuk has convened 36 technical sessions and 29 plenary sessions and ensured the coordination of over USD 600 million investment in all conservation and development activities from more than 30 countries, in consultation with the implementing teams and independent ad hoc experts. It plays a significant role in promoting innovative solutions for cultural heritage management, tourism and livelihoods development and economic growth for Siem Reap and beyond.

During the 28th Plenary Session of the ICC-Angkor in Siem Reap on 25th March 2022, the Co-Chairs, the Government of France and the Government of Japan, unanimously announced their commitment to support and serve as Co-Chairs of the ICC-Angkor for another 10 years. The Royal Government of Cambodia highly appreciated the Secretariat role of UNESCO, and the Co-Chairs for extending the ICC-Angkor for another ten years for the safeguarding and sustainable development of Angkor World Heritage Site. The Royal Government of Cambodia approved the 10-years extension of ICC-Angkor (2023-2033) and appreciated UNESCO’s support in hosting the 4th ICC-Angkor Intergovernmental Conference to be held in UNESCO Paris in 2023, on the sideline of the 42nd UNESCO General Conference.
