On the 7-8 June 2023 the Deauville Green Awards will hold the 12th edition of its film festival in Deauville, France, which is dedicated to celebrating creativity that is committed to the environment. This year, the film produced by UNESCO Green Citizens pathfinder Arnaud Delorme has been nominated for an award at the festival, and a Green Citizen project owner will take part in dynamic roundtable during the event.

Arnaud Delorme’s documentary film “Ubuntu Overland: Education through adventure” has been nominated for an award in the documentary category ! During his film, Arnaud, his wife and two young children leave their home-comforts in Paris to embark on a year-long adventure around East Africa. Their objective? To reconnect with the essential, with nature and with human relationships by discovering environmental projects throughout their journey. Among the projects they visited were 5 UNESCO Green Citizens projects; (Closing the Loop on Waste Plastics Through Heritage Boat Building, Monavale Vlei Biodiversity Project, Ocean Guardians, WESSA Eco-Schools programme, NaDEET). Those attending the festival will have the pleasure of watching a screening of the film at the Morny Cinema, Deauville, and watch Arnaud participating in a discussion about it with young people.

Not only that, but 2 UNESCO Green Citizens project owners will be participating in the lively event. Abdou Touré will be participating in the hybrid roundtable discussion ‘Yes, Future’, about the future, and long-term impacts on communities, all the way from Senegal. Abdou launched the #QuartierVertChallenge movement when he cleaned up the rubbish in front of his house in Dakar, and grew trees and flowers to replace it. Aiming to tackle the problems of waste and lack of vegetation in his neighbourhood, and encourage his neighbours to do the same, he shared his actions on social media with the hashtag #QuartierVertChallenge. From this, the #QuartierVertChallenge community was then born, and has since then spread to 16 African countries and grown its activities to include urban agriculture, micro-gardening and educational programs for schools.
