UNESCO in Brazil organizes this webinar intending to disseminate among educational managers, directors, teachers and other education professionals the critical knowledge about the leadership skills of school directors, which has been considered a key factor in improving educational quality. Furthermore, the event will discuss this theme with the launch of the publication in Portuguese Liderança escolar: diretores como fatores-chave para a transformação da educação no Brasil.

The production of this publication is the result of the collaboration of several professionals working in national and international institutions. Among them are the Getulio Vargas Foundation, which supported part of the survey carried out in the chapter on Brazil, and the Universidad Diego Portales, which has sponsored the project to develop this book since its inception.

About the publication

The leadership of school directors has been considered a key factor in improving educational quality. Furthermore, educational specialists have recognized that school leadership is the second intra-school factor with the most significant impact on improving education, surpassed only by teachers. Therefore, for decades, educational research has sought to learn more about the leadership skills of school directors, with a vast and rich accumulation of knowledge in this regard. This study aims to bring together a significant part of this knowledge, developed mainly in Anglo-Saxon countries, making it available to the Brazilian public.

The publication, organized by José Weinstein and Lara Simielli, is divided into 12 chapters, with 15 authors from nine countries working in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, the United States, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom (England). All academics have recognized the trajectory in the study of school leadership. Accordingly, the publication seeks to provide an overview of the topic, systematizing the most relevant issues in the current debate.
