Cambodia and UNESCO – A Journey of Partnerships to Build Our Future Together

This year, 2023, marks the 72nd anniversary of Cambodia’s membership in UNESCO, and the 32nd anniversary of the reopening of UNESCO’s Office in Phnom Penh.

UNESCO is pleased to present the below video embarking on a tour around this unique heritage building, which has witnessed the journey of partnerships between Cambodia and UNESCO to build our future together, and explores how UNESCO brings innovative solutions in education, science, culture and information to support the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development for the people of Cambodia.

Safeguarding Our Heritage and Fostering Creativity

Culture plays a key role in enhancing and preserving our shared identifies while enriching individuals with the power of creativity to shrive. Through advocacy and policy support, UNESCO works with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and relevant partners to safeguard cultural heritage and promote the creative economy to build a peaceful, just and inclusive society.

Enhancing inclusive quality and accessible education for all

Through its long-standing partnership with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and partners, UNESCO has been advancing the Education 2030 and SDG 4 agenda, including strengthening teacher education, supporting non-formal education sector to offer flexible learning pathways for learners of all ages, and the implementation the Education for Sustainable Development 2030 country initiative.

Promoting free flow of ideas by word and image

In the area of media development, UNESCO supports the strengthening of legislative frameworks to ensure all Cambodians enjoy their rights to freedom of expression and universal access to information and documentary heritage, including in digital forms.

Strengthening Environmental Conservation and Natural Resource Management

As a catalyst for mobilizing international scientific cooperation, UNESCO promotes the advancement of science and its applications to strengthen environmental conservation and natural resources management in Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve, and Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) through policy harmonization, and scientific and technological capacity building.
