ESD for 2030 Global Network

With the deadline Education 2030 Agenda approaching, it is crucial to accelerate the implementation of Education for Sustainable Development to deliver all 17 Sustainable Development Goals. To support Member States in implementing the UNESCO Framework for the implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) beyond 2019 and its Roadmap, and to follow up on the Berlin Declaration on Education to Sustainable Development (May 2021), UNESCO is establishing the new ESD for 2030 Global Network.

Frequently asked questions

Based on the success and lessons learned from the previous Global Action Programme (GAP), this network aims to facilitate the implementation of the ESD for 2030 framework and its Roadmap for implementation by enhancing knowledge sharing, collaboration, mutual learning, advocacy, monitoring, and evaluation, among a wide range of education stakeholders including governmental agencies, civil society organizations, educators, youth, research institutions, UN entities, and international development partners.

While the Network is broad and open, there will be some specific groups to be established as follows:

  • Group of ESD for 2030 countries: this group is comprised of the representatives of the ESD for 2030 Country Initiatives* and their key national implementing partners.
  • Group of global and regional partner institutions: this group is composed of UNESCO’s partners who are expected to enhance international cooperation in further promoting and implementing ESD.
  • ESD community of practice: any individual and/or institution interested in ESD, not covered by the above-mentioned two categories, is able to join the ESD-Net “community of practice.” To this end, they should register to the ESD Newsletter mailing list.
