Through their research, analysis, and consultations, the ethics advisory bodies of UNESCO – the IBC, IGBC and COMEST - contribute to a better understanding of contemporary ethical challenges across various domains, ensuring that UNESCO remains at the forefront of ethical discourse and contributes to the development of a more ethically conscious and sustainable world.

These sessions hold special significance as we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of both the IGBC and COMEST, along with the 30th anniversary of the IBC. Over the past three decades, science and technology have reshaped our societies at an incredible pace. In light of these advancements, global ethics has played an indispensable role in upholding our rights, dignity and freedom and in establishing normative frameworks for the benefit of all. To celebrate the unique mandate of UNESCO in this field, two special panels will be held on 18 September 2023 at the opening of the Session.

The private meetings of the 30th Ordinary Session of the IBC and the 13th Ordinary Session of COMEST will be held on 19 (afternoon), 20, 21 and 22 September 2023.

The working languages for the session will be English and French. All relevant documents will be prepared in these two languages and will be made available on this webpage prior to the meeting.
