Investing in creativity to transform societies
From setting up a digital arts laboratory in Senegal and boosting cultural policy development in Togo to strengthening the music scene in Tajikistan as well as training the new generation of cultural entrepreneurs in Argentina, UNESCO’s International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) contributes towards sustainable development and poverty reduction through creativity. This film highlights the concrete impact of some of the projects financed by the IFCD around the world. The Fund supports developing countries to bolster economies and create jobs by restructuring cultural policies and strengthening capacities and structures in cultural and creative industries.
Dynamic policy development for Togolese culture
This documentary film presents a project funded by the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) and implemented by the Ministry of Arts and Culture in Lome, Togo. Thanks to the 98, 698 USD made available by the IFCD in 2011-2012, the Ministry of Arts and Culture devised a ten-year action plan for the implementation of cultural policies in Togo. Artists and members of the government share their experiences and offer their testimonies. The film highlights how the IFCD’s investment in policy development has fostered the emergence of a dynamic cultural sector.
Culture and creativity are the heartbeat of our societies, and we need to help them thrive, now more than ever. By investing in the creative economy now, especially in the Global South, we support sustainable and inclusive development so that everyone can reap the benefits.
Let's celebrate the IFCD! 2020 marks the 10th anniversary of the IFCD. The IFCD is the Fund established by the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and its goal is to invest in projects that lead to structural changes, demonstrating the value and opportunities that culture brings to sustainable development processes, in particular to economic growth and the promotion of a decent quality of life.
The IFCD supports the implementation of the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and the emergence of dynamic cultural sectors in developing countries by strengthening the means to create, produce, distribute and access cultural goods and services.
