Despite universal access to primary/secondary education and high literacy rates, Central Asia still faces issues regarding the quality of education, presented by poor learning outcomes, which is expected to lower further due to the impact of pandemic. The inadequacy of professional development and support for teachers and national standards for the teaching profession are key factors of the low quality of learning outcomes. UNESCO Almaty will provide support to national education stakeholders on enhancing capacity and professional development of teachers, through the review and analysis of the national policies on teachers, training and supporting teachers and developing teaching/instructional materials to address learning loss due to the pandemic and the improvement of learning outcomes.
