Pacific SIDS are exposed to threats related to natural disasters. However, many countries are both unaware of the risks affecting their heritage and unprepared to address them. Emergency management systems do not always address threats to heritage protection and safeguarding, in addition there is limited capacity to respond quickly which in turn results in lost opportunities to control and reduce the extent of the damage. The limited consideration to culture in emergency responses limits its contribution to strengthening the resilience of communities, helping them recover a sense of dignity and empowerment. The aim of this workplan is to increase capacity of key stakeholders, and to promote the formal inclusion of culture in emergency management systems in selected countries.
