The safeguarding of living heritage is of highest importance in the. Following a close to universal ratification of the 2003 Convention by the Pacific SIDS, the limited local expertise is a hindering factor in the Convention's implementation. Therefore the effort to build a regional pool of experts that commenced under the 40C/5 workplan will continue in the current biennium as part of a three year plan in partnership with the Category 2 Centre in China, the International Training Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (CRIHAP). The Training of Trainers (ToT) for ICH Facilitators will further build capacity of the same group of 30 participants from 13 countries through a series of online webinars, practical assignments and fieldwork.
