N° du projet 2210634011

Pakistan has a diverse and vibrant media landscape. However, over past two years government has proposed social media regulation and media regulatory regime is in transition which is viewed by journalists and experts as leading to self censorship and detrimental to freedom of expression and diversity of media. This in turn creates unfavorable conditions for pluralism and gender responsiveness as well. Moreover, challenges such as increasing online abuse, and hate speech specifically against women are also adversely affecting gender representation, inclusion and pluralism in media. Proposed activities aims to train journalists and academia to effectively address hate speech with particular attention to gender, while also engaging stakeholders in policy debate on the same.
