N° du projet 2210634021

South Asia has a diverse and vibrant media landscape. Community radio has also been steadily growing in India. However, during the past two years governments in the region have seen restrictive social media and media regulatory regimes which lead to self censorship and are detrimental to freedom of expression and media diversity. This has created unfavorable conditions for media pluralism and gender inclusiveness as well. Furthermore, challenges such as increasing online abuse, and hate speech specifically against women are also adversely affecting gender representation, inclusion and pluralism in media. Proposed activities aim at engaging journalists and academia to effectively address hate speech with particular attention to gender, and related policies.
