Safeguarding the Underwater Cultural Heritage in Latin-America and the Caribbean. A Project in the framework of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage (2001)

UNESCO will organize the following activities in cooperation with its national counterparts, aiming at increasing ratifications and capacities in the LAC region: • A Regional Workshop on the Ratification and Implementation of the 2001 Convention; • A Regional Training on the Research, Management and Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage in the Latin American and Caribbean region; • Site evaluation assistance and a national workshop on the pre-Hispanic underwater cultural heritage of Guatemala; and • Assistance to UNESCO Member States in the ratification and implementation of the 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage .
