N° du projet 2210232031

The SIDS are known to face major environmental challenges such as flooding, loss of biodiversity and ecosystem goods and services. The island of Sao Tome and Principe, a large part of which is a biosphere reserve, was affected in early 2022 by deadly floods. The activity will lead to capacity building in flood prevention and management through experience sharing and South-South cooperation with Cabo-Verte and Guinea Bissau. UNESCO's ecohydrological approach will also be applied to ensure an integrated understanding of biological and hydrological processes by applying a socially acceptable, cost-effective and systemic scientific basis for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
