Tsunami warning systems depend on international collaboration, embodied in formal commitments, with the official support of governments. On the technical side warning systems depend on linking together a large number of national geophysical observations in a regional data network where observations flow in real time to designated regional Tsunami Service providers (TSPs) and National Tsunami Warning Centers (NTWC). IOC provides intergovernmental coordination for development and harmonization of regional Tsunami Warning Systems in accordance with mandate adopted at 23rd IOC Assembly (2005). IOC provides assistance for countries to develop their National Tsunami Warning Centers within a multi-hazard framework and for maximizing community response through creation of education and awareness.
